The Links Page
General Bearded Dragon Links
Forums:
http://www.beardeddragon.org This is my favorite Beardie forum. If you have a question on Beardies, the folks on here are likely to have an answer.
http://www.kingsnake.com This is another forum, with a larger reptile species range, but also a good section specifically on Beardies with people who know their stuff.
http://www.reptilerooms.com/ Yet another good forum, with tons of great articles to look at as well.
http://www.manitobaherp.com/forums/ This has a different spin on reptile care than the two prior forums, but it's just as valid. A good change in perspective.
General Resources:
Exclusive Dragons The best, by far Bearded Dragon site I've ever seen. They have an incredible care library. Not only that, but they are also breeders of some fine Bearded Dragons. This is really a one-stop site. Excellent in every sense. If I was in Canada, I would definitely buy my next Beardie from this site.
Beautiful Dragons This is an incredibly useful site, on many different levels.
Bearded Dragon A very extensive bearded dragon care sheet, the comprehensive website on just about anything you could want to know about Bearded Dragons.
Calico Dragons Caresheet I love this care sheet. It is well thought out.
Dragon Tank-Keeper Caresheets This is a page with lots of info on it. Again, I don't recommend the forum that this is with, because they recommend practices that I know for a fact are very harmful. But if you use common sense when you read this (and read a few other care sheets before you go to this one) you can glean a lot of good info from the Keeper Care Sheets on this site.
Bearded Dragon Research Bearded Dragon Research. I particularly like their anatomical section. It's good to know how your pet's body works.
Beardie Training Video This is a video showing you how to train your Bearded Dragon to drink from a water bowl. I think this is incredibly cool.
Taming and Handling Bearded Dragons by Mark Lee A great little article that describes how to tame a volatile Beardie.
Feeding and Health Links
Feeding:
Bearded Dragon Nutritional Information This lists what you can feed your Beardie.
Best Insects for Bearded Dragons and Why A wonderful article written by Cheris, who of all the people I have been exposed to in the Beardie world, I have the most respect for.
Mulberry Farms A site that sells a variety of feeder insects.
Coastal Silkworms This site sells feeder insects too, with a focus on Silkworms, Hornworms, and Phoenix worms.
Premium Crickets You can get Crickets in bulk here.
Health:
Herp Vet Connection A resource to find a vet that deals with reptiles in your area.
Melissa Kaplan's Herp Care Collection- Health, Illness, Injury, and Stress A very extensive site about different reptile health issues, recommended to me by my vet. It's exceedingly useful.
Bearded Dragons Impaction - How to Avoid It An article on impaction.
The Pogona Adenovirus Testing Society This is a site about adenovirus, with adeno information and the beginnings of a list of breeders that are confirmed to have adeno-free colonies. This is an extremely new site, so it is small yet, but I think it will become very useful in the future.
Harmful and Poisonous Plants A must read for educated feeding, so you don't accidentally poison your pet.
Firefly Toxicity What every owner should know.
Signs of Ingestion of Toxic Substances How to tell if your reptile has been poisoned.
Egg Binding in Reptiles An article about egg-binding.
Metabolic Bone Disease in Reptiles Metabolic Bone Disease is one of the most common, severe, and most preventable diseases in the captive reptile hobby.
Enclosure and Lighting Links
Lighting:
UV Guide UK Want to know more about UVB rays, or if a certain UVB bulb is good? Well, this site explains that, and it also tests many UVB bulbs and posts the results so you can see which bulbs are quality, which are not, and which are
dangerous for your pet.
UVB Meter Owners Group A site about all things UVB. I'm using this as a double link. First, the group. It's geared towards people who are out testing things and really know their stuff. The rest of us can read it and learn from it, but if you don't have a UVB meter, you aren't really qualified to actually post on it. Think of it as something like a care sheet, except infinitely more awesome. You can learn a lot by reading through the threads on here. The thread I linked to will explain some of the measurements, so you know what they are talking about later on.
Enclosures:
Crossfire Enclosure Blueprints to build an enclosure.
Timeless Spirit Enclosure More blueprints/instructions.
Basic Cage Building 101 Tips to build a cage.
Building False Rocks for Your Enclosure How to build a rock wall for your enclosure.
Good Woods and Rocks Note: While this particular part of the site is good, I don't condone a lot of the husbandry that is suggested in the accompanying forums, because I have personally seen extremely negative results from some of it Anyway, this is a list of safe and dangerous woods/rocks.
Basic Aquarium Sizes This tells you what the actual size in inches/feet is of most gallon size aquariums. I've found it to be a good reference.
Breeding Links
Professional Breeders:
Every now and then (okay, a lot) I like to sit and drool over the quality animals at certain sites and daydream about buying a few and starting up my own breeding business. Here are the sites I drool at. I checked them all at the fauna board of inquiry, and they have great reps, and they all have awesome care sheets too. Even if you aren't looking for a Beardie, you should check out the care sheets. Most of them are geared toward younger Beardies, so they would be a good contrast to mine. So here they are:
Alpha Dragonz This guy was a huge help when I was breeding, and he is known for his work in strengthening the captive Beardie bloodline. He has some lovely translucents and leatherbacks, as well as excellent lines for many color morphs (snow, leucistic, reds, oranges, yellows etc.)
Kakadu Dragons Another of the breeders who was a big help to me. I found her knowledge of Beardies staggering. She specializes in oranges.
Dale's Bearded Dragons specialize in yellows, all their breeders are lovely yellows.
Bearded-Dragon.info A small breeder with beautiful hatchlings.
Other Breeding Links:
Fauna's Board of Inquiry A great tool. You can find almost any reptile breeder on here, and what their reputation is from people who have dealt with them.
History of Color/Morphs/Lines and Breeders
Egg Incubation in the Australian Bearded Dragon A very useful site with several different breeder's opinions on breeding, incubating, and much more.
Books
Lizard Care from A to Z by Bartlett and Bartlett - Covers a variety of lizards, but the information in the first half or so of the book is for lizards in general, and it is extremely useful and insightful information.
The Guide to Owning a Bearded Dragon by Zoffer and Mazorlig - Has fairly up to date care information, and also has an interesting section on Frilled Dragons as well.
The Bearded Dragon- An Owner's Guide to a Happy Healthy Pet by Steve Grenard - This book has a lot of good information about the nature of the beast, so to speak, although the later care section is not as up to date as could be desired.
Link Issues
If one (or more) of the links aren't working, please email me at [email protected] so I can look into it.
This, by the way, can be counted by and large as an incomplete page of sources as well.
